Wednesday - November - 4 th
A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is an American.
She asks her students to raise their hands if they were American too.
Not really knowing why but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like flashy fireworks.
There is, however, one exception. A girl named Kristen has not gone along with the crowd.
The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.
"Because I am not an American."
"Then", asks the teacher, "What are you?"
"I'm a proud Canadian," boasts the little girl.
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Kristen why she is a Canadian.
"Well, my mom and dad are Canadians, so I'm a Canadian too."
The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"
A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Kristen, "I'd be an American."

"Then," says Kristen, "I'd be an American."

............................................
"Alright! So here come the run phrasals verbs :
* My first phrasal verb was "run down". I said in my story that I ran down Copacabana Beach. In this case , "run down", has nothing to do with going up or down. It simply means to run in that direction.
........................................
*My second phrasal verb was "run around". I said that the children were running around having a good time at the beach. In this case, run around means to run in different directions all at once.Children who are so full of energy are always doing that! They are running around having a good time.
However, run around, does have alternate meanings. Run around can also mean for example that " My husband was running around with another woman". In this case , "run around" means to have an affair with another woman. It means to cheat on someone. So be very careful how you use the phrasal verbs , because sometimes they have a different meaning for the same phrasal verb.
........................................
1- all at once - todos ao mesmo tempo
2- full of energy - cheias de energia
3- however - no entanto, entretanto, contudo
4- alternate meanings - significados alternativos
5- to have an affair - ter um caso
6- to cheat on - trair
Tuesday - October 6th
............................................
*My third phrasal verb is "run out of"..and you want to be very careful how you use this! In many different languages , run out of is equivalent to finish or end. However , in English we do not say it like that. When we have no supply of something , as in my example, I ran out of telephone tokens. Then you would not say :"the telephone tokens are finished".You would say : " I ran out of telephone tokens" , other kinds of supply:
*I ran out of paper
*I ran out of money
*I ran out of milk.
........................................
*My fourth phrasal verb is "run something by someone". In this case you are simply asking for someone to repeat something. So you can ask , sorry ...can you run that by me again?. This simply means to repeat something and it's a very popular expression here in North America.A very very popular question.
### Well, I think that there are no words to put on vocabulary. As far as I'm concerned , you are able to translate this class , aren't you?

Wednesday - October 7th
Today I'll teach the English expression “I meant to”. “Meant” is the past tense of “mean”, and I know you probably know what “mean” means. (Sorry, there are a lot of “means” in that sentence!) I guess you often ask, “What does this word mean?” or you say “Now I understand what the sentence means”.
Now look at these sentences:
I meant to go to the supermarket, but I did not have any money with me.
I meant to do my English homework, but my friend visited me, and we talked all evening.
I meant to speak to my mother, but she was not at home when I telephoned.
I meant to go to Anselmo's , but I really didn't know if he would be there.
“I meant to..” means “it was my plan, or my intention to..” do something. And it is an expression we often use when we have to explain why we have not done something! “I meant to send Lorena's birthday card, but I could not find a good one.” “I meant to meet my friend in town, but I had to stay home preparing Anselmo's lessons .”
Why am I explaining about “I meant to..” in this class? Well, This expression is very useful and I meant to teach you , but I really didn't have any idea whether you knew it or not. I have been worried. I meant to be a better teacher , but sometimes I forget you are almost fluent in English .

Tuesday - September 30th

This simply means to repeat something and it's a very popular expression here in North America.A very very popular question.

wednesday class/ August - 19th
*How's the weather treating you?
**Essa frase não pode e não deve ser traduzida da forma que se apresenta. Por esse motivo apenas devemos saber o uso e utilizar. Fazemos essa pergunta quando queremos saber como as pessoas estão "se virando com o clima".
*Hello Anselmo! How's the weather treating you?
**Hi teacher, the weather is good because I like the winter.
*How's the weather like today in the USA?
**How's the weather be like today in the USA?
#Como você pode notar , tanto faz se eu falo com ou sem a palavra "like". A tradução e o sentido será a mesma. A pergunta será sempre "Como está o tempo /temperatura hoje?"
*How was the weather like yesterday?
*How will the weather be like tomorrow?
#O verbo to be no passado quando se refere á terceira pessoa é WAS.
#O auxiliar que indica frases no futuro simples é WILL.
*it's cloudy = está nublado
*it was cloudy = estava nublado
*it will be cloudy = estará nublado
*it's rainny = está chuvoso
*it was rainny = estava chuvoso
*it will be rainny = estará chuvoso
*it's cold = está frio
*it was cold = estava frio
*it will be cold = estará frio
*it's hot = está quente
*it was hot = estava quente
*it will be hot = estará quente
Rules to the third person /Regras para a terceira pessoa

I wash = eu lavo / she washes = ela lava
They watch = eles assistem/he watches = ele assiste
verbs ended in:

to cry = chorar
I cry = eu choro /he cries = ele chora

Revisão Gramatical - Verbos
Regular/Irregular/Participle
*Em nossas aulas vimos que os verbos podem ser regulares ou irregulares.
*Vimos que podemos identifica-los observando a forma do passado simples.
*Se na forma do passado o verbo aparecer com o final "ed", esse é um verbo regular.
*Porém se não aparecer o 'ed" trata-se de um verbo irregular.
To eat = comer
* I eat chocolate and carrot cake(simple present)
*I ate chocolate and carrot cake(simple past)
**Observamos que na forma do passado o verbo "eat" virou "ate" e portanto não apareceu o "ed", assim sendo esse é um verbo irregular.
To play = brincar,tocar,jogar
*I play piano very well
*I played piano very well
*Agora o verbo 'play" recebeu "ed' na forma do passado. é portanto um verbo regular.
To study = estudar
*I study English with J.B.
*I studied English with J.B.
*Observe que "study' também é um verbo regular. A única diferença é que ao invés de apenas o "ed" , o verbo apareceu com 'ied". Esse 'i" só apareceu porque substituiu o 'y" do verbo 'study'. Isso acontece quando o verbo termina em "y" e antes do y aparece uma consoante. Igualzinho a regra da terceira pessoa.
To stay = ficar,permanecer
* I stayed at home yesterday.
*Eu fiquei em casa ontem.
**Verbo regular/passado com "ed".
To swim = nadar
*I swam at my friend's swimming pool.
*Eu nadei na piscina do meu amigo.
**Verbo irregular/passado sem 'ed"
To run = correr
*Gabriel ran when he saw his mother
*O Gabriel correu quando viu a mãe dele.
**Verbo irregular/passado sem 'ed".
To go out = sair (para se divertir)
*Suzana,Lorena and Anselmo went out after the class.
*Suzana,Lorena e Anselmo saíram após a aula.
**Verbo irregular/passado sem 'ed".
to sleep = dormir.
*Teacher J.B slept at his friend's house yesterday.
*O professor Jota dormiu na casa do amigo dele ontem.
**Verbo irregular/passado sem 'ed"
to smile = sorrir
*The girl smiled at me.
*A garota sorriu para mim.
**Verbo regular/final com "ed"

Hello Anselmo, Good Morning!
How did you sleep yesterday?
Did you have good dreams?
I know you are understanding what I am writing , for this reason I will keep doing it in English.
Well , this morning is not raining cats and dogs .

Even though it isn't raining a lot , we won't have class today.
What's up?
I was supposed to buy an umbrella but I didn't buy it yet.
I will buy it today.
So, tomorrow there won't be any excuse to call it a day.
Have a nice day and see you tomorrow.
